Inspired by the original Californian West Coast IPAs that changed the game all those years ago, Good Old Days has quickly become one of my favourite brews from Kahnawake Brewing, if not one of my favourite brews out there in general. I was therefore hugely happy to see Drew and the team get the recognition they deserved for this fantastic beer when they placed silver at the Canada Beer Cup! Well done guys! 👏🏻 👍🏻 🏅

Good Old Days: Beer review

So what’s the beer all about? Good Old Days is a Double West Coast IPA, hopped with Amarillo, Centennial and Simcoe and clocking in at 8.5%. It opens up with a hoppy bouquet that’s a little dank, but plenty zesty with touches of grapefruit zest, orange peel and some pine spice up top, underscored by subtle hints of peach and pineapple.

An impeccably clean maltiness hits on the palate, bringing forward some slightly sweet pineapple and peach juiciness accented by a dash grapefruit zest. For an 8.5% beer it’s not overly sticky or even too round, instead going down very slick and smooth, drinking waaaaaay too easily for that percentage. This is especially the case because the finish is incredibly dry with some dank, piney and resinous notes that aren’t too potent and balanced just right with the delicate overall sweetness of the malts. 🌲 🍑 🤤

Reminiscent of Pliny this beer absolutely nails the style on the head and is very well deserving of its medal. Do not sleep on this one! 👏🏻
