In 1926 three women— Kathleen Norris, Hilda Kurth and Catherine Robin— became the first to hike the End to End hike of the Long Trail in Vermont. Built between 1910-1930, this 272-mile trail follows the main ridge of the Green Mountains from the border with Massachusetts to the border of Quebec and would later inspire the Appalachian Trail.
They became known as the “Three Musketeers” and inspired local poet Irving D. Appleby to compose the poem “Modern Girls” in 1933, from which the above excerpt is taken. 🥾 🇺🇸 📚
About the Beer
This excerpt also lends its name to an IPA from Burlington Beer, which is brewed to support the Green Mountain Club of Vermont, an organisation that is dedicated to conserving and preserving the Long Trail as well as the rest of the state’s many mountain pathways. Proceeds from the beer sales go to this organization every year. 🏞️ 🎒🏕️
Taste Profile
Vaulted Blue features a lineup of Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, Pacifica, and Cascade hops. It boasts lots of sweet citrus up front, with a touch of peach and a dash of pine in the finish. It’s got a slightly more malt-forward body with a touch of caramel sweetness carrying stone fruit notes and hints of citrus. It finishes dry with a pronounced resinous bitterness that makes it surprisingly refreshing and a great post-hike beer! 🍊 🍑 🌲

Originally from England, Mike Davis came to Quebec ten years ago to study history. During this time he fell in love with the microbreweries of Quebec, which reminded him of English pubs. Now, he holds a Ph.D in History from McGill University but works in the beer world as the Brand Ambassador for Microbrasserie 4 Origines.
