Glassglow Kiss is a light Scotch Ale packing a whole lot of malty flavours. A recent brew from 4 Origines Microbrewery. Smooth on the palate, it is also rich with great biscuit notes and fruity esters.
Tonight, January 25th is Burn’s Night. This annual celebration honours Robbie Burns, the national laureate of Scotland, who penned such famous rhymes as Auld Langs Syne, Address to a Haggis and the above Gude Ale Keeps the Heart Aboon. Celebrated on his birthday, a traditional Burn’s Supper often includes poetry recitals, a feast of haggis and plenty of drams of whisky. 🥃 🏴 ✍️
O gude ale comes and gude ale goes,
Gude ale gars me sell my hose,
Sell my hose, and pawn my shoon,
Gude ale keeps my heart aboon.
– Robbie Burns, 1795
Une Ale Écossaise des 4Origines
To toast Rabbie, I’m drinking this Scottish Ale we made at 4 Origines Microbrewery in collaboration with Dispensaire to honour the Scottish heritage of Montreal. It’s based on a Scottish Export Ale, also known historically as an 80 Shilling Beer.
This beer falls on the lighter end of the alcohol spectrum than a Scotch Ale but was higher in ABV than 60 or 70 Shilling brews, making it more equivalent to a Scottish bitter. This version was boiled for 3 hours to bring out the rich flavours of the malts and then fermented with a Scottish yeast strain from Solutions Brassicoles.🍺 🏴
Glassglow Kiss: Beer Review
The result is a light beer that packs a ton of malty flavour. It boasts rich notes of caramel and toffee alongside more classic aromas of biscuit, toast, roasted nuts, and some great fruity esters. It’s light but smooth on the palate, with all the caramelised goodness mixing with subtle hedgerow fruit accents, mild British hop spice, and earthiness.
Like all “guide ales” this can be sipped and enjoyed by the pint, bringing all the flavour you want in an easy drinking package. Perfect for toasting Robbie Burns! 🍮 🌰 🍻

Originally from England, Mike Davis came to Quebec ten years ago to study history. During this time he fell in love with the microbreweries of Quebec, which reminded him of English pubs. Now, he holds a Ph.D in History from McGill University, but works in the beer world as the Brand Ambassador for Microbrasserie 4 Origines.

What is a Stock Ale?
Historically, a Stock Ale would be strong batch made from the first run off a parti-gyle brew. Saint-Albion revived the style with a 1830 recipe for a extra strong ale.
