You want a great IPA that will finally answer your Summer thirst and your hunger for hop in Ontario. With over 300, Ontario is one of the hoppiest provinces in Canada. As in the rest of the country, the IPA is king!
We asked beer geeks about their favorite craft IPAs in Ontario and here are the top contenders. Be sure to check our page on Ontario beer festivals if you would like to sip them all! We know there are hundreds more that are worthy, but this list should give you a pretty good place to start!
What are the best IPAs in Ontario?

Bone Tree by Third moon
This was a bit of a surprise for us as we had never heard of the brewery, but Third Moon was the most quoted beer when we asked folks what their favorite craft IPA was.
Somehow, Ontario beer geeks seem to pack Third Moon, Wood Brothers and Badland in the same holy bucket.

Highland Haze by Wood Brothers
A solid brew for all who dare to venture into the highlands, the Highland Haze has a respectable score of 4.18 on Untapped. This beer pours a bright yellow with a creamy head releasing aromas of citrus, tangerine and assorted melon lead into a smooth bite.

Shumei by Blood Brothers
Shumei by Blood Brothers Brewing is a hazy Ontario IPA that blends East and West Coast styles. Bursting with mango, grapefruit, and pine, it delivers a soft, juicy mouthfeel balanced by a refined bitterness. Light-bodied and highly drinkable, this flagship brew pairs effortlessly with tacos or beer-battered fish.

Sunsplit IPA by Dominion City
The Sunsplit IPA is perhaps the best known IPA in Ottawa, consistently ranking in the top 3 craft beer sales among LCBOs of the capital. Easily one of the best and most accessible IPAs in the province, the Sunsplit really split the atom on this one.

Greenbelly by Bellwoods
Bellwoods’ Green Belly is a bold and hazy Triple IPA that hits hard with a lush explosion of tropical fruits—think mango, strawberry, pineapple, and peach—with a whisper of lemon meringue and herbal dankness. Despite its 10% ABV, it drinks surprisingly smooth thanks to a soft, pillowy body and low bitterness. A big beer that rewards slow sipping.
Among the other fan favorites are the Jutsu, the Roman Candle and the Green Velvet. We would only add to the list the memorable Witchshark.

High Grade by Fair Weather
Fairweather is arguably one of the absolute best breweries in Ontario. There is simply a history of bold innovation and chronic freshness. Combine that and the epic history of their head brewers, you get a combo for heroic beers.
Powerfully hopped and fruit-forward, the high grade is hands down one of the best in the province : . You want a great IPA : here is one that will live on your palate for eons.

Wicked Awesome by Nicklebrook
Nickelbrook’s popular new England-style IPA leans into notes of mango, melon, and tangerine, backed by a soft bitterness and creamy mouthfeel. Pouring a cloudy orange-yellow with a fluffy white head, it delivers both aroma and flavour in full force. Smooth, bright, and refreshingly crisp on the finish, it’s an approachable and well-balanced IPA that’s easy to come back to—and a crowd favourite for a reason.

Life in the Clouds by Collective Arts
This Hamilton brewery is rightfully one of the biggest favorites in Ontario. Collective Arts is perhaps the most famous Toronto brewery across Ontario.

Sawdust City’s Lone Pine West Coast IPA
Sawdust came out quite a lot in user’s comments, but for many a beers. One IPA stood out : the double shoom described as « insanely good » .

Octopus wants to fight by Great Lakes
Great Lakes makes some excellent, affordable IPA. Shout to Canuck (a pale Ale) – probably in my top 5 when considering cost, availability and tastiness. According to one redditor, « their Sunnyside IPA is only 3.9% but packs a massive taste ».

Refined Fool’s Florida Ate My Parents

Mad Tom from Muskoka
This would not be a real list of IPA recommandations without the Mad Tom. One of the top selling beers in Ontario, the Mad Tom has become a classic sinonymous with the spirit of the hoppy times in the province of Ontario. Mad Tom is one of the early generations of IPAs, and in many ways set the standard.

Juicy Ass by Flying Monkeys
You can’t put together a real list of IPA recommendations without including Juicy Ass, the loud, tropical staple from Flying Monkeys. Bursting with mango, grapefruit, and tropical fruit aromatics, Juicy Ass manages to deliver all the juice while keeping enough West Coast bitterness to stay grounded in IPA tradition. It represents the moment Ontario fully embraced the juicy IPA trend—bold, aromatic, and unapologetically vibrant.

Boneshaker IPA – Amsterdam
Last but not least, this classic IPA has rightfullu earned its place on the prime shelves. Another heavy hitter on the Ontario IPA scene, Boneshaker is as straightforward and unapologetic as its name suggests. This is a big, old-school IPA built on robust bitterness, resinous hop character, and intense citrus notes, all supported by a solid malt backbone.
